A simple way to check your average blood glucose
HbA1c, also known as glycated haemoglobin, provides an indication of your average blood glucose level over approximately the previous 2 to 3 months.
Unlike a single blood glucose measurement, HbA1c gives a longer-term picture of how much glucose has been attaching to your red blood cells over time.
This makes HbA1c an important blood test when assessing for possible pre-diabetes or diabetes and when monitoring people who already have diabetes.
Results should be interpreted according to the appropriate laboratory reference ranges and, where necessary, alongside your symptoms, medical history and other clinical information.
